About Course
Professor Rabie discusses the effect of maxillary molar intrusion with mini-implants on mandibular autorotation.
With this lecture, learn how and why accurately predicting the amount of mandibular autorotation is clinically relevant for treatment of anterior openbite cases.
What Will I Learn?
- Learn how to accurately predict the amount of mandibular autorotation that can be achieved with maxillary molar intrusion.
- The factors that influence the amount of mandibular autorotation.
- How to add mandibular rotation as part of your treatment of anterior openbite cases.
Why is this Clinically Relevant?
Let’s imagine a case with an anterior openbite of 8mm.
Treatment requires a combination of (i) mandibular autorotation and extrusion of (ii) upper and (iii) lower incisors.
Since the mandible’s position directly affects the position of the lower incisors, a change in the mandible’s position with autorotation will also change the amount of openbite. Only after calculating of the amount of openbite reduction after mandibular autorotation can we then plan the amount of extrusion the incisors need.
